Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer to support a NAVAIR customer at NSWC Crane. This position focuses on creating, editing, and formatting a range of technical documentation and instructional content that complies with established military and industry standards, while also supporting test data analysis tied to range testing activities. The successful candidate will support engineering and logistics teams by translating complex technical information into clear, structured documentation, and will work closely with the engineering team to take on data analysis and reporting tasks currently performed by an engineer, freeing that engineer to focus on other priorities. Essential Functions: • Develop clear, accurate documentation such as technical manuals, curriculum, SOPs, and guidance materials. • Receive workflows via email, assign project workbook numbers as needed, and keep folders and documents current. • Read, proofread, edit, and format documents and memos, returning revised documents to the point of contact (POC) for approval or rejection of changes. • Route documents as necessary using POC-provided routing lists; maintain active routing lists and follow up with individuals who have pending workflows awaiting review and signature. • Finalize documents once routing is complete and return to the POC, updating the project folder accordingly. • Transfer legacy supplementary documents (SDs) into the current format and submit for routing. • Write new SDs and verify they address all requirements set out in the governing SOP. • Calculate and transfer information from Work Requests, comparing items submitted for various tests (e.g., leak testing and other non-range tests) against the tests actually performed on the range to identify discrepancies between requested and completed testing. • Calculate averages and standard deviations across tested item sets, using established formulas and processes, to determine homogeneity within a given set of results. • Create test reports based on this analysis. • Ensure documentation meets customer standards, style guides, and usability needs. • Research, organize, and prepare technical information from various sources. • Perform desktop publishing including formatting, layout, tables, and structured content. • Create and manipulate graphics, charts, diagrams, and flowcharts for inclusion in documentation. • Support documentation validation/verification events and participate in customer and internal meetings. • Maintain documentation records and support administrative tasks such as meeting minutes and file management. • Interface with technical writers, multimedia staff, engineers, and government representatives. • Work independently with limited supervision, exercising sound judgment to research and resolve questions before escalating. Travel: Minimal. Occasional travel to customer sites may be required. Benefits: • Comprehensive health benefits, including life, health, dental, vision, short-term disability (STD), and long-term disability (LTD) coverage for eligible employees and family members. • 401(K) Plan with company match. • 12 paid holidays. • Paid time off (PTO).
